The intention that grew to become HARP sprouted from an observation. A few of us began to notice that there was something seriously lacking with the current systems of health care and education. Somewhere along the line our culture lost its ability to truly be in harmony with our natural world, each other. This lack of connection caused us to build walls between us, leading to isolation and fear. At HARP we strive to build community and the remove the barriers between us. When we recognize the value of our unique skills, diversity becomes one of the biggest strengths we have. Collaborating toward a common goal, we are shifting mindsets and creating systems that bring us together, instead of driving us apart.
Backyard Farmacy is a subsidiary of Healing Arts Resource Project, and is the central node of our healthcare approach. The mission of Backyard Farmacy is to empower our community, by helping each of us to relearn that we are in charge of our health and can become our own healer, by listening to the wisdom inside ourselves, each other and the plant medicines in our own backyard! We make our own line of bodycare, therapeutic aromatherapy and first aid products, with a focus on locally wildcrafted organic plant medicines. We also provide information on how to make these products at home through our weekly classes and workshops. The apothecary is open every day except Monday for walk in consultations with our knowledgeable staff. We are available to answer questions and create personalized formulas for our customers with our stock of bulk herbs, tinctures and essential oils.
HARP bands together with a wide array of practitioners on the third Sunday of each month to host a sliding scale clinic. We offer professional consultations to the public in exchange for donations according to each person’s ability to pay. It is our belief that people should have access to health regardless of their financial situations!
